
We All know the great impact that GitHub has had in the development world, a large part of the open-source code is currently on this platform; but there are certain products that are less known, such as GitHub Copilot, GitHub Actions, GitHub Advance Security, among others.  

# GitHub Copilot

## What is it?

Is an IA tool (now in Technical Preview) that provides code recommendations to developers. We must understand that Copilot isn't perfect, and just like the code we develop ourselves, we must test and review. 

## Use

The first time that I used Copilot I could only say "WOW, is this real?" and above all, I was surprised to discover that it works in different languages, not only English.

And that it isn't only for simple code but can also understand the context of our own code and this makes it much faster to develop our applications and pipelines.

When GitHub announced this, there was a lot of uncertainty about the risk involving these types of products, but if we don't understand the logic and design of applications, tools like these won't do any good. 

## How does this work?

Copilot is based in a module and, similar to GPT-3, it has been adapted to the code in which it has been trained. But as you keep using it, it "understands" your style and adapts to you. If you don't like the first suggestion it gives you, you can write how would you like it to start, and it will adapt and deliver new suggestions. 

## Are there other similar solutions?

Copilot isn't the first solution to have this function, tools like Tabnine and Kite have this same functionality, however, Copilot stands out because it uses Codex, which is a descendant of GTP-3, therefore it provides us with a deeper understanding of the context than other assistants. We must also consider that Copilot is training with lots of public data available in GitHub. 

## What is coming for the future?

These types of tools are far from being a risk for our work, I see it as a big opportunity for us to be more productive, since we can forget about repetitive task or functions that we normally used to search on the internet (ID validation, change date format, and many more) won't take us very long, and we could invest more time into improving our logic and develop better quality application.
